There is now an opportunity to join the People, Strategy and Railway Strategy Directorate within RDG as a Crisis Management Specialist. This is a secondment role and would suit someone who has experience of working in rail in operations or communications but who now wants to develop their skills in crisis management and emergency planning.

The role is responsible for implementing, maintaining and embedding operational crisis management and emergency planning structures and activities within RDG and wider industry.  This includes providing support to RDG Directorates and RDG Members on crisis management planning, communications, operations and processes. This can involve co-originating responses to live industry crisis situations; organising simulation exercises and briefing sessions for RDG employees and members; and undertaking post-incident response reviews.

The role will also assist in helping the industry to manage the transition away from Covid response measures and undertake detailed planning and preparatory work for major ceremonial events working with relevant industry partners and stakeholders.

The ideal person will have:

  • Demonstratable experience of creating and embedding crisis management structures including internal and external communications and operational plans across large complex organisations.
  • A good working understanding of railway industry structures and processes
  • Evidence of success in working with a range of stakeholders to co-ordinate activity and achieve desired outcomes.
  • A good aptitude for analytical and problem solving, with good analysis and documentation skills via high level of education or equivalent work experience
  • Aptitude for and demonstratable evidence of building successful and strong relationships across organisations and sectors.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution and ideally educated to degree-level
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to be able to work within the industry front-line manager / supervisor to director
  • Excellent relationship skills with an ability to engage with stakeholders in a way that builds trust and respect with people at all levels of an organisation

We are currently seeking a Senior Business Analyst & Team Lead who will work with the programme and project managers in the identification and definition of the business analysis elements of a programme of work, which will replace the existing National Reservations Service – a high profile, high capacity, public facing system.

The successful candidate will also manage a team of approx. 10 Business Analysts, while developing a business analysis practice within the Customer Portfolio Directorate of RDG, which will deliver excellence in business analysis, to the benefit of the whole organisation.

The ideal person will be:

Professionally qualified to degree or equivalent level, with at least, 5+ years’ experience in Business Analysis roles in a senior capacity as part of a software delivery team. BA Industry certification (e.g. BCS or ISEB) is desirable but not essential.

Familiar with the Software Development Lifecycle, preferably with multiple methodologies (Agile / Scrum, Waterfall etc.), as well as experience with modern technology and architectural approaches (SOA, Cloud etc.)

Vocationally experienced, ideally within the Transport, Travel, Retail, Utilities, Professional Services industries.

It is essential you are able to demonstrate experience (or competence) of:

  • Wide knowledge of business analysis and experience in its application at different stages in a software deployment project and at different levels within an organisation
  • Extensive knowledge of business analysis techniques, notations and delivery methodologies gained in a variety of projects and/or organisations

The Senior Finance business partner will be an integral member of the wider Corporate Services team to provide financial, business partnering and management accounting services to the RDG Group of businesses and to Members.  The role will be responsible for delivering management accounts, budgeting and business forecasting reports.

The ideal person will be:

Professionally qualified with a relevant degree/postgraduate qualification, with relevant accounting experience and proven success in financial and management accounting roles. The role is primarily focused on change projects so experience in project accounting would be advantageous.

  • Producing management accounts, budget and business forecasting reports as well as preparation of related monthly balance sheet reconciliations

We are currently seeking a PPC Display Manager (maternity cover) to manage and implement the Performance Marketing tactical and always on activity for National Rail products. They will manage all PPC, affiliate and display activity working in partnership with our media agency. Leading the campaigns from the briefing stage to reporting, testing, review and ongoing optimisation.

They will take the lead on multiple national paid campaigns ensuring targets are met around sales, ROI and CPA. They will manage both always on and tactical campaign activity to achieve agreed KPI’s.

The ideal person will be:

 

Experienced in the management of PPC, Display and Affiliate marketing campaigns. They will need to have sound commercial awareness and demonstrable record of delivering results.   

A self-starter, used to working in a busy marketing team.

They will also have proven experience testing in both a waterfall and agile environment, combined with a strong acceptance test related background. The successful candidate will have experience in Test Tools Jira, Confluence and ALM (or similar) and be familiar with test automation.

This role will work under the test lead/manager on the project and aim to provide support for testing responsibilities listed below on a day to day basis.

Smart Ticketing Product Lead - Permanent

The Rail Delivery Group (RDG) exists to enable passenger and freight train operating companies and Network Rail to succeed by delivering better services for their customers – passengers and freight consignors – and thereby bring benefits to taxpayers and the UK economy.

Rail is changing.  The introduction of smarter forms of ticketing such as barcode and smart card give the rail industry a more flexible and dynamic retail environment.  This role is about pushing that further, faster.

We are seeking a Smart Ticketing Product Lead who will own one or more of RDG’s portfolio of smart ticketing solutions.  This means taking concepts from plan to reality, creating and updating standards, putting together commercial deals, ensuring successful delivery of the product components in support of the wider retail strategy.

You will be one of a small team at the cutting edge of how the industry turns strategy into real, funded, running projects and ultimately successful products.  In the past this team has driven the agenda of rail retail into new and exciting areas.  We are now seeking someone who can build on that foundation and move us forward even faster.

Comfortable thinking about where we are today as well as being well ahead you will act as the responsible owner for packages of work you have created which traditional project managers deliver.

Organised, technically capable and unbound by convention, you will be the kind of person that enjoys being in the detail, working with diverse teams to find ways around dependencies and delivering change effectively. Political astuteness, the ability to forecast and anticipate, experience in evangelising concepts and personal resilience will also be key to the role.

Highly qualified and experienced with a great track record in strategy, product management, forming, obtaining agreement to and delivering complex change. Methodical and logical, you will possess the pragmatic ability to identify and take the risks needed to get the job done. What we’re looking for:

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with demanding customers with varying needs and meeting or better, exceeding their wishes.  Running safe, punctual train services is core to our members’ businesses and the RDG Operations Manager has a central role in coordinating, aligning, shaping and representing members’ views to important stakeholders across the rail industry.  The work is varied, the job is busier than you will think and it is intellectually challenging, always interesting and tests both your operations knowledge and your wider leadership, facilitation and diplomatic skills. 

An understanding of railway operations, industry structures and roles is essential as you will formally represent members on cross-industry bodies that seek to improve overall railway performance and ensure that the standards to which we operate the railway are fit for purpose and cost-effective.  You also support TOC Directors by running RDG groups which exist to identify good practices, share problems and knowledge and elicit and then align members’ views.  You need to be self-starting, well organised, have excellent written and oral skills and be passionate about customers.

Within RDG, the Operations team plays an important role in interfacing with the wider industry on activities which support our members in providing a safe and reliable railway.  We do this through the promotion of collaborative working, developing and sharing good practice and representing our members’ needs in key industry groups.

This isn’t an exhaustive list, but things you can expect to be involved with include:

  • identifying, coordinating and, where necessary, shaping members’ wishes in operations standards, performance and railway operations activities
  • being a source of expertise for member company managers seeking guidance on relevant standards, guidance and matters pertaining to railway operations
  • project work relating to traincrew, the Rule Book and standards
  • developing, commissioning and helping to embed the outputs of operations R&D to improve safety and performance outcomes.

The ideal person will be able to demonstrate:

  • A very good understanding of organisations’ roles, responsibilities and relationships, formal and informal, throughout the rail industry;
  • An understanding of railway operations and strategic safety management;
  • Knowledge of relevant national codes, e.g. the Railway Operations Code, Railway Group Standards and be able to navigate the standards landscape;
  • Knowledge of the performance, current operations and traincrew topic areas.
