Funding and profits

  • At £4billion a year, government funding for the railway was the same in 2012-13 as in 1994-95 in real terms, the last full year of a publicly run railway.
  • Government funding per journey is £2.35, 29% lower than in the first full year of privatisation, and the same or lower than in nine of the last 12 years leading up to privatisation.
